Art Auction Featuring “The Dock” by Amanda Strobel

Gratitude by Jason Diaz

  • Mandy Strobel was raised in Port Washington, New York and is now a Boston based mixed media illustrator and live painter who specializes in contemporary art making. She is a recent graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design. After receiving her BFA is Illustration, she went on to show her work at two consecutive gallery shows in Watertown, Massachusetts at the TILL Wave Art Gallery. She currently owns and operates her own live painting business called “art skips a beat” in which she delivers an unforgettable and unique experience to encapsulate the magic and beauty of your next event.

Mandy fell in love with painting where she grew up. She was endlessly inspired by the vibrant sunsets on Lighthouse Road, the endless green in the Sands Point Preserve, and the spectacularly strong arts program at her public schools. Mandy’s work mixes and melds the color and glamour of 3D and 2D media into digital paintings with lots of sparkle. The glitter and saturation is used as a lens for the painful experiences being communicated in her work.

Some of my greatest memories growing up took place gazing at a sunset over a sea. Through good times and hard times, the sun always set in the same place and I was always there to watch it.
I have lived in Boston for nearly half a decade now and I love it in Massachusetts a lot, but coming back to Port and being surrounded by my family and friends that know me before all of the glitz and glamour of a big city; There is nothing like it. I have live painted at many events before and this experience was by far my most memorable. I hope that the happiness I felt comes through in the art that I made.

Created en plein air during the Port Washington inaugural Art Walk this original painting is inspired by Port Washington’s unique landscape

It was very gratifying for me to be invited to the “Art Walk” and be able to participate in the artistic activities that day, because it’s a way to remember and showcase the artistic work that all we have done at the town, meeting the people, sharing thoughts and keep learning. That’s why I made the painting “Gratitude”, inspired in Port Washington and its unique landscapes transmitting calm and giving the desire to continue pursuing dreams
